Tobe Hooper's understandably underrestimated The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 2 is a straightforward horror fiddle, that doesn't try to beat the previous on the field of fright - this film is solely humour-based. In the previous film Hooper's humour drowned under the total terror, so this time the film is even more over-the-top. Chainsawing has spread wider than ever and realism is tossed into tepid chestfreeze. This sequel isn't for everyone, but accepting it as an independent artpiece helps in the process - this grotesk grumbling doesn't make the original Chain Saw Massacre any less efficient or valuable.

Lucio Fulcin Don't Torture a Duckling (suomennoksena virallisesti toiminut Kauhujen kylä, helvetti soikoon) on yksi Fulcin pidetyimpiä ja kiistellyimpiä gialloja. Luvassa on yllätyksellinen giallo kuorrutettuna Riz Ortolanin kuolemattomalla scorella - onnistunut äänisuunnittelu kruunaa elokuvan hienouden.
Don't Torture a Duckling is one of the most liked giallos of Lucio Fulci. Kiddos are brutally murdered and catholic church takes its own part of critizism - this film was no light entertainment in 70's, especially not in Italy. Fulci's touch is way more serious than in his later exploitation projects, the entity holds nicely together and the fog of mystery is thick and strong. Fulci tricks and manipulates the viewer, and you aren't always sure how things really happened. Don't Torture a Duckling is a surprising giallo topped with Riz Ortolani's immortal score - successful sound atmosphere is the cherry on top of the great film.

Kill Order (2017): I will always champion independent productions—particular in the horror and/or action genres—and Kill Order is a film that needs to be championed. Writer/Director/Actor #jamesmark clearly lays everything bare here and Kill Order emerges as a superior piece of action/sci-fi entertainment that desperately needs a sequel like yesterday! The movie follows a young man who, after being experimented on, can channel energy from an alternate world (dubbed the spirit world) in order to become a brutally effective weapon. The film mainly focuses on his memories of these experiments and his struggles in attempting to flee the people who would use him. While the spirit world elements—while intriguing—are underplayed and perhaps will be expanded down the road; the film is worth its weight in gold with its actions sequences. Mark’s younger brother @chrismark2x portrays our protagonist with lots of dramatic energy and boundless energy during the film’s action. With subtle and strong SFX work, the fight sequences are jaw dropping throughout with great camerawork and an extraordinary sense of impact. Mark is an incredibly talented martial artist and I cannot wait to see more of him. There is a three on one rumble in a park that was simply fantastic and an apartment battle that left no aspect of said apartment un-demolished. Mark isn’t afraid to get bloody as well which gives his action more teeth than one might expect from something that feels a bit “comic-booky” upon first inspection. The film also benefits from solid work from #danielpark#jessicaclement and #denisakiyama who help to add drama to the narrative. Even with an obviously lower budget, the film’s production values are strong with solid locations, exemplary camerawork, and some damn fine CG work on display. The latter truly gives the film’s action scenes a punching-up in quality as we can believe these fighters can actually do what they are doing. I would say that the film is a bit undercooked in its writing but I am guessing this was due to budgetary constraints and not because of poor writing. Do yourself a favor and support Kill Order and the talented people involved! #movie_mattinee
Re-watched Denis Villeneuve's Sicario tonight. Its such a suspenseful thriller that oozes undeniable class. From Villeneuve's superb direction to Roger Deakins impeccable Cinematography to the late Johann Johansson's excellent brooding nerve shredding score the film is a perfect example of the masters of their craft all coming together to craft as good a thriller as you can get. Emily Blunt's performance is almost as good as I've seen her (only bettered in Edge of Tomorrow) as the play it by the numbers FBI agent Kate but it's Benicio Del Toro that shines above everyone else playing his role with calculated coolness brilliantly. The only slight disappointment was I'd have liked another 5-10mins more of the tunnel gunfight scene, but this is definitely a film that will stay in my collection forever and another example of why Denis Villeneuve has cemented himself as one of my favourite directors. 9/10. #justwatched#sicario#filmdiary#moviediary#movielog#nowwatching#bluraycollection#bluraycollector#blurayaddict#film#filmcollector#filmcollection#filmbuff#movie#moviecollection#moviecollector#hometheatre#homecinema#hometheater
So I got an early digital copy of Justice League and watched it again for the first time since the theater and while I was great disappointed in it the first time around I will admit to having more fun with the second viewing. It’s still got a ton of problems but the humor worked more and the action was more impressive once I quit judging it and just watched it. Affleck is still the bomb, Gal is still perfect and Ezra is a great Flash. I also like the fact that Snyder opened up the camera and got away from the scope aspect ratio as I feel like it really lets the colors of these comic book films flow off the screen. All in all, definitely worth a second trip even if you hated it the first time through.
